Work space and concealed kitchenette

La Cochera involves the careful conversion of a former agricultural out-house into a self-contained living and working space set within the dramatic landscape of Las Subbéticas National Park, between the cities of Córdoba and Granada. The existing rural structure, with its textured rendered walls and characteristic clay-tile roof, has been sensitively adapted to preserve its agricultural simplicity while adding contemporary character.

Inside, a series of cleverly planned interventions allows the compact footprint to accommodate a concealed kitchenette, discreet shower room, and flexible living space. Bespoke joinery elements and a controlled palette of natural materials lend warmth and precision, while carefully positioned openings frame long views across the surrounding fields and hills.

Externally, the building sits quietly in its rural setting, maintaining the modest form and materiality of the original out-house. Subtle new insertions — including a large sliding opening and a refined pattern of pigmented tiles — anchor the project in its context while signalling new inhabitation. The result is a rural retreat that balances the building’s vernacular heritage with a calm, contemporary sensibility.

Building work is planned to commence in 2026.
